John Barber
Managing Partner

Prior to Cohesive, Mr. Barber was the Managing Partner of Citi Private Equity (CPE), which he co-founded in 2000. In this role, Mr. Barber managed approximately $13 billion of capital and oversaw the direct equity, direct mezzanine and fund investments globally for CPE and its affiliates while managing a team of 19 investment professionals and 50 total professionals in New York and London. Mr. Barber sat on the Investment Committees of CPE, Citi Alternative Investments, Citi Mezzanine Partners, CCP II, Citi Real Estate Partners and also on the Management Committee of Citi Alternative Investments. Before co-founding CPE in 2000, Mr. Barber served at Salomon Smith Barney as a Managing Director and Deputy Head of the Financial Entrepreneurs Group, Head of the Private Equity Group, a member of the Equity Commitment Committee and as a senior member of the Equity Capital Markets Group. Prior to joining Salomon Smith Barney in 1995, Mr. Barber was a Managing Director at Kidder Peabody & Co. where he was Head of the Equity Capital Markets Group and a member of the firm’s Commitment Committee. Prior to Kidder Peabody, Mr. Barber started his career at Drexel Burnham Lambert where he held various capital markets roles over seven years. He received a B.A. from Tufts University magna cum laude.

Tony Bienstock

Prior to Cohesive, Mr. Bienstock was a Partner and Member of the Investment Committee of Offit Capital Advisors, where he diligenced and chose third party investment managers used for the investment of $5 billion of client capital, and was the lead person responsible for prospect and new client interactions. Previously, Mr. Bienstock spent twelve years involved in private equity investments: he was a Managing Partner of the “new” Citi Venture Capital, investing Citi’s balance sheet in small to middle market LBOs; a founding Partner of Park Avenue Equity Partners, a small to lower middle market focused private equity firm; and a Vice President of MG Capital, a fundless private equity firm focused on small transactions. Prior to his work in private equity, Mr. Bienstock worked at Goldman Sachs in Private Client Services where he developed new client relationships and advised clients on portfolio construction and manager selection. Before this he founded and ran a real estate development firm. Mr. Bienstock started his career at JP Morgan in the mergers and acquisitions group. Mr. Bienstock received a B.A. from Harvard College and a M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia Business School.

Gregory Angrist

Prior to joining Cohesive in 2011, Mr. Angrist was a Principal of StepStone Group, LLC, where he invested in and diligenced private equity opportunities in the U.S. Previously, Mr. Angrist was Vice President of CPE (working under John Barber), which managed approximately $13 billion of capital across direct equity, direct mezzanine and fund investments. Prior to joining CPE he was an Associate at Jefferies Capital Partners, a middle market private equity firm. He was also an investment banking Analyst in the M&A group of Wasserstein Perella & Co. Mr. Angrist received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude, and a minor in Mathematics. Mr. Angrist received a M.B.A. from the Columbia Business School.

Adam Freeman

Prior to joining Cohesive in 2012, Mr. Freeman was an Associate at Madison Dearborn Partners, where he spent two years working with portfolio companies and evaluating private equity investment opportunities in the Industrial, Consumer & Retail, and Financial Services sectors.  Previously, he was an Analyst in the Global Industrials Group at UBS Investment Bank.  Mr. Freeman received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from Bucknell University and received a M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Joe Franken
Vice President

Prior to joining Cohesive in 2014, Mr. Franken was an Associate at Robert W. Baird where he was involved in a variety of transactions focused primarily on the industrial sector.  Previously, Mr. Franken was an Analyst in the Foreign Exchange Macro Sales group at Goldman Sachs, and a Vice President at Faros Trading, a trading firm founded by several of his Goldman Sachs colleagues.  Mr. Franken received a B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University and completed the Leaders in Global Operations program at MIT, receiving a M.B.A. from the Sloan School of Management, and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from School of Engineering.  While at MIT, Mr. Franken was selected to complete a six-month fellowship program focused on global purchasing and supply chain for General Motors in São Paulo, Brazil.

Stephen Kelly

Prior to joining Cohesive in 2017, Mr. Kelly was an Analyst at Outcome Capital, a boutique merchant bank in the Washington D.C. area. There, he advised the firm’s clients, primarily in the Government Services and Technology sectors and aided in the management of the firm’s private equity investments in its two funds. Mr. Kelly received a B.S. in Commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia with a concentration in Finance.
